Hi all,
First off, I want to apologize for not providing a review last week. Some of you may know this is my side project. I work exclusively remote so I review places I visit during my actual job as a journalist. Last week, with the election, my focus shifted to that.
Next week, I’ll return to my regular weekly reviews.
However, I do want to say something briefly about the election here. I’m sure many of you are rolling your eyes right now. You’re probably thinking, “Why the hell is he turning this space, where he reviews coffee shops, into a forum for politics?”
I’ll get to that in a moment.
Many New Yorkers didn’t get the result they wanted on Tuesday. The man who won has an agenda that harms a lot of people, especially women and immigrant communities. As a reporter focused on the economic impact of policy decisions, I’ve covered how his policies will hurt immigrant communities both financially and humanitarianly.
Trump and his allies have made it clear they are more than willing to strip away basic rights from anyone who dares to disagree with them. But what they can’t take away is the sense of community — the ability to connect and support each other.
That’s why, as New Yorkers, we must continue embracing the diverse communities that make New York City such a special place to live and work. We can support businesses, particularly small, independent coffee shops (many of which we’ve reviewed already), quite a few are owned by immigrants.
We must continue to patronize these businesses and use them as spaces to gather, work, and make connections. Supporting them is vital, especially as they face both social and economic challenges in the months and years ahead.
Take your time to process what happened in your own way, but let this serve as a reminder: if we isolate and abandon each other during this pivotal moment, hate wins.
Best,
Andy
