Hey Readers,
Yesterday, I walked by Pause Cafe, previously one of my favorite co-working cafes, and noticed a sign outside prohibiting the use of laptops and tablets. Unfortunately, this means we've lost a great co-working space in the Lower East Side.
In Bushwick, Nook— another personal favorite of mine — now has laptop-free zones. While this isn't a huge blow, it does highlight a growing hostility toward remote workers who are otherwise regulars at these establishments.
Unfortunately, this is part of the catch-22 that coffee shops face. They've built an environment conducive to remote work but struggle to sustain themselves as this model evolves amid the rising costs of goods that coffee shops largely rely on. I actually wrote about this phenomenon for Sherwood News.
I encourage users to regularly buy food and drinks at the businesses we recommend while working at them. If it’s been a while since you ordered something, consider relocating or ordering something else.
With that said, I’m working on new neighborhood-centric guides that give you multiple places to check out over the course of your workday — curated itineraries, if you will, for paid subscribers. Please consider upgrading to a paid subscription for more content and to help us continue providing this essential resource to New Yorkers.
